I had only a 20 minute block of time to capture Aidan’s personality portraits for his portfolio. We went to a new location and I have to say – it was perfect!

There is so much attention to detail that goes into creating a finished art print for my clients. The artistry behind my photography includes more than just a snap of the shutter. I love to create dramatic portraits and spend hours behind the scenes hand editing each digital file to enhance my final artistic vision. Here is an example of a before and after from yesterday’s family session blog post. Since I get a lot of questions about editing – I plan on sharing more examples on the blog and explain how I get from SOCC to a finished print.

Here is the digital file SOTC (straight out of the camera) – I think it’s a very nice image – his eyes are simply amazing and you can see the catch lights in his eyes (very important to capture). My 70-200 2.8 lens compressed the image nicely and blurred the background (which was a mix of mulch and rocks).

Here is the final edit of the same picture. I was going for a more dramatic feel and used the color saturation to enhance that look.

So a few weeks ago I shared my personal holiday cards. You can check it out here. I finally got around to making a album with some of my favorites from the evening. I love having these pictures of my children but gosh – it’s such a pain to get. I have visions of urban funk and trendy European magazine layouts that have inspired me but when it comes to getting that all together for my own personal use – I FAIL! I can’t stand the dragging of the kids to the store – the whining when they don’t get something they like – and then putting it all together – that’s a whole nothing bag of tricks! This year I decided I’d take what they would give me and try not to get any tears. I had a last minute cancellation so I took advantage of the time and as the kids came home one by one – I threw them in the car and took them to a local field. I had thrown in a brush – a colorful sweater and a black hat for Aidan – a blue scarf for Madison – and Rowan – well…she took care of herself. For the most part – they all cooperated albeit with minimal tears and screams. As I take a second look at this series of photographs of my precious clan – I couldn’t be more thrilled with how they turned out. I feel that I’ve captured each one of their personalities and as a mother and a photographer – I’m very proud of that accomplishment.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! This sleepy newborn arrived just in time to celebrate the season with his family and I’m so happy I was available to photograph his newborn session. The studio will be closed through January 3rd 2011 as I enjoy the season with my own family.

A few days ago I blogged the Whitaker Family Session in the wildflower field. My good friend Shannon is also a portrait photographer in the Gainesville area. I had so much fun teasing Shannon from behind the lens. It’s not always comfortable to be the photographer in front of the camera – but Shannon has such a wonderful of attitude that she makes it all so easy!

I must have been telling the girls to make farting noises!

I think the dirty joke – got too dirty!!!

Oh get a room why don’t ch’aa!!!!

I just love the smiles in this photograph – The Whitaker Family is a very loving and connected group!!

During the peak of the wildflower season I hooked up with fellow portrait photographer Shannon Whitaker and her lovely family. I don’t get to hang out with her nearly as much as I like – we are both so busy with our home life as well as our thriving businesses. She has offered to photograph me numerous times – but I always chicken out! Like many – I prefer to be behind the lens. As well as families and children – Shannon also has a boudoir division of her photography business that I highly recommend! The day we took these pictures in the secret garden – it was Shannon’s birthday – Happy belated birthday to a gorgeous and uber sweet lady!

This family of four is waiting for their newest member to arrive any day now! Baby number 3 is going to be another girl! Mom is incredibly beautful and wanted a fun and relaxed maternity session with her family in the wildflowers. I had so much fun watching the girls play with my newest toys – which includes a tickler – thanks Ikea! I have so much respect for this pregnant Italian Mama – how she manages to be so calm and look so beautiful with two little girls under 3 and another one on the way any day! I can’t wait to photograph this new arrival!
