The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire is by far the most anticipated event in Gainesville Florida that my family looks forward to. The weather is always perfect – it’s always the end of January so it is never too hot nor too cold. It is so much fun walk through the isles of where the merchants are and see so many unique handmade goods. The acts are almost always the same – and usually the same jokes – but for some reason it always seems like we are hearing it for the first time. There is still one more weekend to enjoy the faire – go and check it out here.

One of our favorite acts as the acrobat team of Barely Balanced. I made a video with my iPhone of some of the highlights from their show – you can check them out again this weekend – they are awesome! Tell them Laurel sent you.

Buchholz H.S. Golden Regiment Marching Band | Highlights from FMBC

Last Saturday the Buchholz H.S. Golden Regiment marching band attended their very first competition of the Fall 2011 Marching Season and did very well. I am beaming with pride and so glad that Rowan is participating in the band. It’s only been a few months but already I feel so connected to the kids and their parents that work so hard to make this band run!

I took this photograph last night as the Golden Regiment was posing for their official band portrait for another photographer who was on a ladder. Oh I wish I had that height – but until the official portrait is printed – here is my version of the Buchholz High School Golden Regiment – I have to say I’m a wee bit partial to this band as my daughter is a freshman flute player this year! Watch out for this band – it is one of the – if not thee BEST marching band in the State of Florida! We go to our first competition on Saturday in Seminole Florida – watch out!

4 weeks and counting until the summer ends and the rigors of the school routine begin. I love having unstructured days and “free play” all the time! My husband does not have the advantage of a more relaxed schedule as he still has his job to go to every day of the week – but the kids don’t relate to that!

My heart skipped a beat when Jillian contacted me about scheduling a lifestyle session in the wildflower field with her best companion, Shayna. She shared with me that Shayna was in poor health and that she did not have much time left on this earth. I am so moved and honored to have been able to document this special relationship. Shayna was at peace a few days after this session and her memory will never leave those whom she has touched!

I had such a wonderful time with this family in the wildflower field. We blew bubbles, played peak a boo, and jammed with Adele and other great music. I could not have asked for a better evening to photograph in the wildflower field. The color and the weather were just perfect. This little guy is super adorable and has the most amazing smile. His parents are just as wonderful and it was so relaxing and fun for me too!

The decorations are packed and put away, the kids are off to school, the start of a new year has begun. I have been working on some exciting additions to Laurel Housden Photography including much requested Photography Workshops for mother’s that are interested in learning how to take better pictures of their children! I am crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s and will share the details of my upcoming workshops in the next few days. In the meantime I am proud to share my updated marketing materials that hopefully express my love of all things whimsical and nostalgic!

I had a lot of fun putting the 2010 slideshow together this year. This was by far my busiest year and I am so grateful to all my friends and clients that have stayed with me as I transitioned from my portfolio stage into a full blown LLC - Laurel Housden Photography, LLC. It has taken about three years to finally make the transition. During this time, I have found a style that I am comfortable with and hopefully that is reflected in the portraits in the annual slideshow. I look forward to sharing new and exciting adventures on my blog and unique session ideas for 2011.
