Some exciting news! I am helping Aaron Bailey out at a VERY SPECIAL event in Gainesville, Florida tonight. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see the pictures but I can assure you that it will be worth the wait! I will offer up some hints: Orange and Blue and Two Very Special Guys!
Here are some pictures of Aidan playing with his chalk yesterday evening. You’ve gotta love the light. Late afternoon and early evenings are the sweetest times to shoot. To make the most of the light – use spot metering and meter off the face. I used the largest aperture I could get on my 18-55 lens which was 3.5. I use this technique with backlit portraits. Here are some examples of frontlit and backlit pictures. I post processed them with a few very cool filters that are included in the Nik Color Efex 3.0 Set. The Dynamic Skin Softener is one of my favorites. It’s quick and easy and comes with a buiit-in mask. As always, feel free to drop me a comment or email if you have any questions.
Keep Smiling,
Laurel

When shooting fast subjects such as Aidan – I always shoot in continuous mode. Especially when I have a slow shutter speed. The continuous mode lets me leave my finger on the shutter thus making the consecutive photos much more sharper because I didn’t have to press the shutter again and risk camera shake. But another reason to use continues mode is capturing all those fast moments that are surprises…such as a sneeze!
