The Great Wall Of - Gainesville

In Gainesville there is a wall about 2 blocks long that is decorated with graffiti. It is located near the University of Florida on S.W. 34th Street between 2nd Ave and Radio Road. I have always wanted to stop and take some pictures of it because it is so colorful and just a great picture place. It faces west - so I knew it would be great for sunset photos. There is some cool history associated with this wall and if you want to learn more about the Graffiti Wall in Gainesville you can check out this link.

The only problem about going to the all  (and the main reason it has taken me so long to  visit) is that there is no parking and it is located on a major 6 lane street. It is something you need to plan - and with three kids - it ain’t happening for awhile. Since Gainesville is a college town it becomes very quiet in the summer and this being a holiday weekend - it has been very quiet. Stuart and I decided to visit the wall with Aidan on Saturday night and these are the pictures we got.

First, we had to get Aidan interestetd in going so we gave him a bucket of chalk and told him he could paint on the wall. That got him in the car. Once we got in sight of the wall, we had to figure out a place to park and then try and cross the 6 lane highway.

The paint on the wall is got to be 10 inches thick! There is always new pictures everytime I pass. Aidan had fun “painting” on the wall.

He’s pretty good, huh!

I love this one!

My sweetie puss!

After about 20 minutes we decided to make the trek back to the car. Aidan thought it was pretty fun trying to cross the 6 lane highway, his Daddy didn’t think so!

Here is the view of half of the wall from across the highway.

Happy Memorial Day! We are off to another place and event that I’ve been meaning to do since moving to Gainesvillle - The Blue Crab Festival in Palatka, Florida. I am a native Marylander - so this is as close as I get to blue crabs.

Keep Smiling,
Laurel
