Even though I have lived in Gainesville since 2000, I have yet to see many of the places that make this Gator Country so special. Now that I am taking my photography more seriously, I am scouting out places in the area for future photo shoots. I grabbed Rowan, Aidan, and my husband Stuart for a little trip (about 15 minutes) to Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park. Basically it’s a 120′ deep sink hole that leads to a miniature rain forest. The walk down the sinkhole was easy. As I was skipping down the wooden staircase I could not understand why there were several adults off to the side huffing and puffing…until I made my way back UP! That’s a different story. Check out this web site for more info on Devil’s Millhopper. Remember to click each picture for a larger view.
Rowan and Aidan working their way DOWN!!!
Stuart and Rowan take a minute to look around at all the scenery. I had the D-300 set to Vivid. I think that is why there is such a purple cast to this picture.
This is the sign that they were looking at…still pretty high up.
I wonder how long it took to build the wooded staircase.

We came just at the right time. I love how the sun is coming through the trees.
Stuart was being such a good sport about modeling for me. He is such a hunk!
After we made it back up the top, we headed over to the San Felasco State Park playground. Here are a few pictures of the kids with Stuart. Here is Aidan making it across the monkey bars for the very first time. I am so proud of him!
Rowan takes a catnap while Stuart hides from Aidan while playing Hide and Seek!
….Aidan finds Daddy and gets a ride back.
