Review of the Mpix.com 24 x 30 Canvas Print

A few weeks ago, I was a guest host on my favorite photography podcast – The Digital Photography Show with Scott Sherman and Micahel Stein. On the show Scott and I interviewed Joe Dellesega from Mpix.com ( the place to order all your photography prints) and as a result – Scott arranged with Joe to send me a FREE 24 x 30 Canvas print of one of my favorite photos! You can download the podcast and hear the show here - we also interviewed the Dean of the New York Instititue of Photography, Chuck Delaney. Again, Scott arranged for Chuck to send me a FREE Fundamentals of Digital Photography course in the mail – which will be discussed in a different blog entry!

Anyway…here is my review of the Mpix.com 24 x 30 Canvas Print. First of all, the customer service at Mpix is just outstanding. The print came in less than a week! It arrived in a huge cardboard box tightly wraped in Mpix tape – when I say huge – I mean taller than my 5 year old! I think he is planning on making a coffin for Halloween with it!

Inside the box the print was triple wrapped in thick plastic. This baby wasin’t going anywhere! After about 10 minutes of unwrapping (well worth it too…) here is how the print looked out of the box..proudly displayed by my daughter Rowan.

The canvas print is ready to hang on the wall. It already has the wire mounted on the back.

The hardware used to secure the wiring is securely fastened

The picture is wraped around on all four sides. Be careful when you size and crop your image for final printing. Don’t have anything special right at the end. I actually cropped my photo to exactly fit a 24 x 36 not taking consideration that  about 1 inch is going to be wrapped on the sides.

The quality of the  print was outstanding. I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to edit and saved the picture to fit exactly a 24 x 30 print. I sharpened the photo based on this size and the profile I saved was Adobe 1998. The final canvas print looked EXACTLY as I saved it. The same colors – not even slightly off – exactly as I wanted it! Because it is printed on canvas it has a texture to it which gives the print so much more of an artistic feel. It really looks like it should be hanging in a gallery!

As you can see…it was very easy to hang. I used a picture frame hook to nail in the wall and wella – my beautiful canvas print is hung for all to see!

I highly recommend purchasing a 24 x 30 canvas print from Mpix.com.  When you consider the cost of a frame and printing and having to do eveything yourself – it’s a no brainer. A few years ago a paid over $1,300 for a 16 x 20 print of my three children – the cost did include the photoshoot, etc. But had I had this option – I would have gladly paid for the print and had it printed at mpix. The cost is $150 plus shipping. AND you get a really cool box that your young ones can enjoy for years and years!

Rick Koetter - Hi Laurel… Great review. The wrap looks wonderful. I can’t wait to take a picture worthy of such a presentation! I had one question… Did you select the option to NOT have the photo color corrected by MPIX, or did you go ahead and let them color correct as needed?October 25, 2007 – 11:53 pm

Kay Cyr - Hi, Laurel – I really appreciated the review. I’ve been considering Mpix and now will definitely try them out. Am enthusiastically waiting for your review of NYIP, something else I’ve been considering. And I enjoyed your appearance on the podcast. Hope they have you back soon!!
