Judy Black is the principle at Lawton Chiles Elementary School in Gainesville, Florida. A few months ago I had a meeting with her at the school to discuss to introduce her to my son – who will be attending her school this Fall. At the end of our meeting she shared with me that she was recently diagonosed with Breast Cancer. I was curious to know how she first found out and what steps have been taken to help her. She was so graceful and shared with me her story. She felt a lump in the middle of her chest and called her doctor right away. She went in the next day and by the end of the week she was diagnosied with breast cancer. She is going to be O.K. and she has started her radiation treatment. When she realized that I was a professional photographer she asked me if I would photograph her with her 6 week old grandson when her head was shaved. She wanted to document both of their “bald” heads. It was an honor! Judy came to me on the very first day she ventured out in public completely bald and I have to say – she looks beautiful!
