Take great fireworks photos with your point and shoot| my July 4th message: gainesville children’s photographer

July 4th is one of my favorite holidays. I’m a sucker for red, white, and blue and it gives me a chance to wear my tacky Target sparkle flag shirt for the day! I thought I’d  share some tips on taking great fireworks pictures and a great outing for the morning of July 4th.  You don’t need a fancy digital SLR to take great fireworks. You do however need either a steady hand or a tripod – or both and just a regular point and shoot digital camera will work fine. Instead of me trying to explain the “how to” part – I would suggest a couple links that I found very helpful when I ventured out to take the following fireworks pictures over at the University of Florida a couple of years ago. I used a basic point and shoot digital camera on them. Here are two great articles on the topic here and here.

Don’t forget the detail shots too….

For the last 8 years I’ve taken the kids to the Micanopy July 4th parade right downtown. It starts at 11 a.m. and it truly is one of the best “small town” parades I’ve ever been to. It reminds me of what it would be like to live in a “Doc Hollywood” world. The parade lasts about an hour and and the families line the streets watching the parade pass with excitement. Make sure to bring a bag for each child to put the hordes of candy they will receive from all the floats that throw candy out to them.  It’s like Halloween in July! Here is a link to some pictures I took from the parade in 2008. You can download a pdf file with all the details of the parade by clicking here . I’ve included a few of my favorite photos from past years below.

Have a Happy 4th of July!!! The studio is going to be closed through Tuesday as I enjoy some family time!!!
