My first pictures with the D-300

I can’t believe I contemplated getting the D-300 for months now and all I can manage to get with my new camera is pictures of my sick kid! We here at the Housden Hotel have been fighting colds, sore throats, head aches, and fevers. I managed to get a few test shots today of my adorable little man this morning. What a trooper!

I’m glad I just looked over my notes because I just realized that I shot this  series all in JPEG Fine and not RAW. I imported them into Lightroom and did NO processing. I exported using Lightroom resizing to 900 pixels at it’s widest point. I used Matrix Metering in all of the pictures and my lens was my Nikkor 18-70mm 3.5 -4.5 G lens that came with my D70s.

I am impressed with this shot because I took this at 3200 ISO AND - 1/3 exposure. Shot at 18mm, f/3.5 at 1/80th/sec

Shot at ISO 500, 70mm, f/4.5, 1/25th, 70mm - I love the spark in his eye!

Ahhhh, feeling a bit better!  Shot at ISO 100, 38mm, f/8.0, 1/60th, using SB-800 Flash with stofen omni bounce

I love the detail in his eyes..you can even see a bit “sleep’ in the corners. I bit under exposed but I love the details. Shot at ISO 200, 60mm, f/5.6, 1/160th sec

d300_test-5.jpg

Shot at ISO 200, 70mm, f/5/0, 1/100th

And last but not least here is Aidan with his Leapster Game with the sun pounding his back side. Shot at ISO 200, 70mm, f/7.1, 1/200th

The next series of shots I will take outside in RAW and compare the differences between the Raw Converter in Lightroom and Capture NX.

    Hi Laurel,

I can’t imagine what is more painful; the flu, or not being able to go out and shoot with your new camera! At least you can read the manual and get familiar with everything before you head out. Hope you’re all feeling better soon. Your son is a trooper, indeed. My kids wouldn’t let me take their pictures if they were sick. Bribery might have worked though….

Best of luck with your new camera!
