The picture above was taken today with my new D-300. It is a picture of my macbook showing the Elite Video DVD on how to work the D300. All of the pictures that I am loading with this entry are straight out of the camera (SOTC). No retouching or sharpening.
Thank you for all of the encouraging notes left regarding my apprehension with getting the D-300. It really made me feel so much better. I have to say that I am so far extremely happy with this camera. Coming from a D70s I really thought that it would take me awhile to get used to the new interface but all of the buttons and menus are put in a logical place so I did not really have to figure anything out. I have been playing around with it inside this weekend because I have been sick with whatever my children have been bringing home from school. So far I am very impressed with the auto white balance and the sharpness and colors of the images. I went ahead and ordered a 3 hour tutorial on the D-300 from Elite video and today I am going through all of the chapters. I am so glad I got this video! I know I would have figured it out just by reading the manual…but it’s so much faster just to sit back and watch. Especially since I have been out of it this weekend.
Aaron came over to check out the D300 and he took my D70s home with him to clean it. I have to say…it felt like a pocket camera after handling it’s big brother! I know feel justified in purchasing it. I’ve learned so much with my D70s and the D-300 is the logical next step. I don’t feel that it’s much of a big step if you are coming from a D-200 - that next step would be the D-3. I know a lot of people are considered about the price tag of the D-300 but it is actually less than what the D-200 was and only a few hundred dollars more than what I paid for the D70s only two years ago.
Here are a couple more pictures I took right after turning on the camera. They were taken with the auto white balance and in P mode. SOTC - no processing done. The picture of my books was even taken with the pop up flash on!
The next items I want to learn more about are using the focus system and the D lighting. Also I still have not figured out how to view the photos without the 3 lines of photo info. Anyone know…please email me!

Nice job on the Cape images.
I was wondering, how many people take pictures of bookshelves to try out their new gear ?
I did the same exact thing. Either great minds think the same way or we don’t adventure out much
Hope you are feeling better soon and can get out and show us what your new toy can do.
