I have taken on a personal photography project that highlights some of the “off the beat and track” areas of Gainesville, Florida. One of my favorites of this series is the Kelly Power Plant in Gainesville, Florida.
If you drive by the side of the plant, you can see the water going through the vents:
Next to the Power Plant is the “rails to trails” biking trail. I noticed several concrete walls with pieces of bike embedded in them:
I thought it was very interesting artwork. But come to find out that it is acually a bicycle memorial that was made several years ago from the actual pieces of bike that were involved in a terrible fatal collision with several bicyclists. I have added the memorial plaque that explains how the memorial came about:
